Privacy Policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
This website presents my music, writing and work. It is kept deliberately quiet: there is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no profiling of visitors, and the site itself sets no cookies.
Who is responsible
Elika Ostrov is responsible for this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For any question about your data, write to elikaostrovmusic@gmail.com.
Visiting the site
The site is hosted by Hostinger. When you open a page, the server automatically records technical information that every browser sends: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure, and it is kept only for a limited period before being deleted. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a functioning, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The fonts used on this site are stored on the site’s own server, so no font service is contacted when you visit.
Writing to me
If you send an email, I use your address and message only to reply and to continue the conversation you started. My email is provided by Google. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. I delete correspondence once it is no longer needed.
Embedded music and video
Some pages, especially the Soundings, include players so you can hear the music being written about:
- Bandcamp (Bandcamp, Inc., USA), SoundCloud (SoundCloud Global Limited & Co. KG, Berlin) and ERR (Eesti Rahvusringhääling, Estonia’s public broadcaster). These players are not loaded when you open a page. In their place you see a placeholder; only when you press “load” does your browser connect to the provider, transmitting your IP address and technical browser information.
- YouTube (Google Ireland Limited). Videos are embedded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode: your browser connects to YouTube when the page loads, but no YouTube cookies are set until you press play. Once you play a video, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
Legal basis: for players you choose to load, your action (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); for the YouTube connection on page load, legitimate interest in presenting the music discussed on this site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Some of these providers may process data in the United States; transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Their own privacy policies describe what they do with the data: Bandcamp, SoundCloud, ERR, Google / YouTube.
Links to other sites
Links to Instagram, Bandcamp, YouTube, Discogs and other sites are ordinary links. Nothing is sent to those services unless you click through, and from then on their own privacy policies apply. Purchases of my releases take place entirely on Bandcamp.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data held about you, and to have it corrected, erased or restricted; the right to data portability; and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 15–18, 20 and 21 GDPR). To use any of these rights, write to the address above.
You also have the right to complain to a data-protection supervisory authority. In Berlin this is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
Changes
If the site changes in a way that affects your data, this page will be updated and the date at the top changed.
